Lower Dauphin School District (LDSD) Personal Taxes

On July 1st of each year, every Township resident 18 years old and over (regardless of whether you own your home, live with someone, or rent) is mailed a School personal tax bill. The only exception is if you are 18 and still in high school. The School tax year is July 1 through June 30th.

There are certain partial exemptions which will remove the Occupation Tax amount. To claim the exemption, fill it out, sign, and return an Exemption Form to the Tax Office.   https://www.ldsd.org/Page/332   The forms are also available at the East Hanover Township Building.  Writing notes on the tax bill does not qualify.  Resident must meet any one of the following criteria and submit the Exemption Request Form.

Occupation Tax Exemption Criteria (resident must meet any one of the criteria)

Pennsylvania taxable income is or will be less than $6,000 for the current tax year. If you claim this exemption, but find your income has increased beyond the $6,000 before the end of the year, you must come into the office to pay the Occupation amount.  OR

Retired and your only source of income is social security, pension or disability  OR

A full-time student of higher education  (enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester for 2 semesters during July 1 through June 30 of the following year).  OR

A member of the clergy with no other occupation.  OR

70 years of age or older as of July 1 of the current year.

Exoneration Criteria (resident must meet any one of the criteria)

IF you meet one of the criteria, e-mail or call Tax Collector for further information.

Indigent and require 24-hour care (requires doctor’s letter)

Out-of-state active military (resident, PA Drivers License and/or Income Taxes paid to PA)

Out-of-state active military (non-resident, State Income taxes not paid to PA)

Moved -out of Township prior to July 1.   To provide proof of non-residency or that you have moved out of the township prior to July 1, mail a document which includes your name, new address and is dated PRIOR to July 1. Examples include (but not limited to) Driver’s License, lease/sales agreement, utility bill or registration card. This should be mailed to the East Hanover Tax Collector’s office.)

Supplemental Lower Dauphin School District (LDSD) Personal Taxes

If you were missed in the July mailing, on January 1st, a "Supplemental" mid-year tax bill will be mailed. The tax obligation amounts are the same, just due Jan-Feb (discount); Mar-April (face); or May-June 15 (penalty).

Unpaid/Delinquent Personal Taxes

The unpaid School/Township Personal Taxes not paid or postmarked by December 31st (or June 15th for supplemental bills) are considered delinquent.  These tax bills are turned over to the Keystone Collections Group and are subject to fees assessed by Keystone. Those letters are mailed late January/early February.  Any delinquent personal taxes must be handled through Keystone (724-978-0300).
